Ecology

Grows at Low to middle elevations.

Commonly found in: Swamps, wet forests and meadows.

Uses

CAUTION: Roots and possibly whole plant is poisonous.

Medicine
  • Leaves applied to draw out thorns and splinters.
  • Poultice made to treat rheumatism, and joint pain.
  • Leaves were considered medicine for baldness.
Material
  • Leaves were also used as "Indian wax paper" for drying berries and cakes on, or for wrapping left-over food. Also used to line steam pits.
