Ecology

Grows at Low to middle elevations.

Commonly found in: Dry to moist areas. Open woods, clearings, ravine edges, coastal bluffs.

Uses

Medicine
  • Made into teas for tonic, diarrhea, stomach upset, colds.
  • Treats internal bleeding,
  • Bark dried and powdered as a treatment for burns.
Material
  • Very hard wood - was used to make fish spear prongs ("qá:thexw"), salmon barbecue sticks, arrow shafts, needles for bulrush mats, knitting needles.
