Ecology
Grows at Low to middle elevations.
Commonly found in: Open shorelines, meadows, stream sides, clearings.
Uses
Food
- Flowers in May and June.
- High in vitamins A, B, C, E, and K.
- Most parts are edible, but the seeds in the rose hips can irritate digestive tract.
- Hips can be eaten raw or used for tea. Hips, leaves and roots also dried for tea.
Medicine
- Medicine for diarrhea and stomach upset. Also an eyewash. Hot compresses reduce swelling. Treats tonsilitis and sore throat.
- Chewed leaves can be applied to bee stings.
