Food
  • Berries ripen in August, and are eaten fresh or dried.
Medicine
  • Bark is heart medicine and blood thinner. Also reduces swelling.
  • Relieves diarrhea, and treats kidney disease and insomnia.
Material
  • Thorns used as prongs on rakes for catching herring, and for fish hooks.
  • Hard wood carved into tool handles.
