Ecology

Grows at Lowlands to subalpine elevations.

Commonly found in: Woodlands, meadows.

Uses

CAUTION: WIlted leaves contain toxins. Some people may be allergic to berries and develop hives or a rash.

Food
  • Excellent source of vitamin C.
  • Berries eaten fresh in May-June, and dried whole or in mashed cakes.
  • Makes good tea.
Medicine
  • Diarrhea medicine, as well as treatment for kidney and stomach problems.
  • Disinfectant for cuts and sores.
